A simple thing
Like the way your smile forms
Is enough to be born all over again
*
Or the way the sunlight hits your face
Renewed vitality
*
Or even that feeling in your chest
That you can never get enough of
When a laugh raises tears to your eyes
*
That sense of belonging
Of family
Of having found your home
*
The epiphany that suddenly grabs hold of you
And won’t let go
On a warm evening
Running
Racing
Chasing each other
And laughing
Joyous
With the ones who are now brothers
*
The unexpected high
Of waking to a new sunrise
When you open the door
And know you’re only travelling from one home to another
*
And never feeling alone
Never feeling lost
Because with them by your side
You can never be afraid
*
Not knowing how long it will last
But that glimmer in their eyes
That makes you believe that even when you can’t
You know they’ll give you the hope you require
*
And that new form of drifting
More like peaceful giving up
Because there’s no sense of struggling
And trying to let go
More like a vast ocean
While they’re teaching you to,
Step by step,
Enter the swimming pool
Showing you how it’s done
Because they’ve done it before
*
No longer needing more
Because need has no more meaning
When they hold your hand
And show you the way
When they laugh with you
And show you there’s no need to be afraid
Because it’s all been done before
By those just as young as you
Because suddenly, you’re not alone
