The girl with the thousand candles

The girl with the thousand candles

Wraps herself in blankets of smoke

Drowns in wax and fire

To escape from the boy of the shadows

*

The girl with the thousand candles

Drinks blood-red wine

In honour of those she’s lost along the way

With each step, she seeks to rewind

*

The girl with the thousand candles

Finds comfort and company

With the elements

Throwing herself over thunder

In a useless attempt to reach the heavens

*

The girl with the thousand candles

Burns herself in the hope of another meeting

Wears old masks hoping

To invoke his sentimental spirit

*

The girl with the thousand candles

Smacks the hovering bugs

Those that are enamoured by her passion

Those that, beside her, would never belong

*

The girl with the thousand candles

Once fell for the boy of the thousand waves

Knowing he would wash her fire out

But nonetheless choosing him over the hives

*

The girl with the thousand candles

Therefore chose to sink

Under the current of the green-black boy

And as they fell, he washed away her ink

*

The girl of the green-black darkness

Never kept love around

The girl with the thousand dreams

Couldn’t care enough to keep herself sound

I love the repetition of the first line. Hypnotic.

  2. That was just Amazing . Of all your poems I found it the best. It repeats and is resonant. It echos and yet displays the heart clearly. Beautiful.
