They call me brave

They call me brave

But fright rules each new day more than the last

They call me loyal

But my loyalties died with their bodies

They call me optimistic

But grey drains all colour away

They call me pretty

Surely they would disagree if faced with my scars

They call me determined

But stubborness is a talented manipulator

And strength an easy disguise to wear

They call me diplomatic

But I can’t reconcile the beasts and ghosts within me

They call me shy

But the storm shrieks and rages

Loud enough for an army

They call me level-headed

But I can’t tame this monster

And I can’t control the impulse to scream

This is beautifully written, and I completely relate to what you’re saying here.
