My heart swells

on

My heart swells at the sound of a bird singing

However winter stands confidently over the slanted buildings

A hand extended to cover and smother all living things

.

The cold caresses my fingers

Like a glove enveloping my rapidly-shrinking extremities

But my feet, comfortably seated in my socks,

They’ll share their warmth with my eagerly-anticipating limbs
